AVG 2013 - Firewall is stopped after a recent AVG update

If you are using AVG 2013 on Windows XP, the AVG Firewall may stop working after a recent program update. The firewall then shows status Stopped. When you click on Firewall, it reports the following status:

Firewall cannot start, because an error has occured in communication with a driver. Please contact AVG Technical Support.

To fix this issue proceed as follows:

  1. Download the AVG Repair NDIS tool.
  2. Close all documents and running programs.
  3. Run the tool, and then click OK. Your computer will restart automatically after the tool finishes.
  4. After the restart, check the status of the AVG Firewall.

Note:
If the firewall remains disabled after restart, please restart your computer again. It may take up to two more restarts to finish the fix in some rare cases.
