How to Migrate from AVG Admin 9.0 or 2011 to AVG Remote Administration 2012
The migration from AVG Admin 9.0 or 2011 to AVG Remote Administration 2012 consists of several steps. This is a guide to this process, additional information about AVG 2012 can be found in the documentation, or in other FAQ topics.
Important note:
Stations that are to be upgraded to AVG 2012 will be restarted during the remote installation. Please see FAQ 12320 for more details.
You will not be able to manage stations with AVG 9.0 using AVG Remote Administration 2012. Those stations will be listed in the Network Installer in the Admin Console, ready to be upgraded to AVG 2012. See section III below.
-
Installation of AVG 2012 Remote Administration
-
Download the latest AVG Remote Administration 2012 installation file.
- Please select the AVG Edition based on your licence.
- Download the file AVG Admin 2012 for Windows.
-
Install the AVG Remote Administration 2012
- Your current AVG Licence Number will be required during the installation.
-
After the installation, follow the AVG Admin Server Deployment Wizard.
- When asked, perform a backup of the current database
- Finish the deployment wizard. It will automatically convert the database.
- The AVG Admin Server will be started after the wizard.
- The Admin Server listens on port 4158 by default - the same port as Admin Server 2011 - this means that old AVG 2011 installations will be able to communicate with the new AVG Admin Server (AVG 2012).
-
Download the latest AVG Remote Administration 2012 installation file.
-
Install AVG 2012 onto the stations using the AVG Network Installer Wizard
- Run the AVG Network Installer Wizard from the Start menu (Click on Start -> (All) Programs -> AVG 2012 Remote Administration.)
-
Follow the wizard and configure the options according to your needs.
- The default settings are sufficient in most cases and will ensure that the stations will connect to AVG Remote Administration 2012 after the installation.
-
The AVG 2012 installation file will be required in the process:
- If you are installing AVG on workstations only, you can use the automatically downloaded installation package. In case the AVG Network Installer Wizard fails to download it automatically, please download the appropriate package from our website (the filename starts with letters avg_ipw).
- If you also wish to install AVG on a server, please note that due to different components, it is necessary to install AVG (on the server) separately with a special installation package (the filename starts with the letters avg_msw), which is also available in the Downloads section.
- Select the method to find the stations that are to be upgraded in the Network Scanning step.
- When the stations are found, select the stations that you wish to install AVG 2012 on and click on Install.
- Proceed with the installation.
-
Install AVG 2012 onto the AVG 9.0 stations that were previously connected to Remote Administration
- Open AVG Admin Console from the Start menu (Click on Start -> (All) Programs -> AVG 2012 Remote Administration.)
- In the left hand pane, select Network Installer.
- On the right, you will see a list of stations with AVG 9.0 installed. Select the ones you want to upgrade. (You can select all of them with CTRL+A).
- Right click selected stations and choose Install selected stations.
- Follow the remote installation wizard (see section II. above)
