If AVG Email Scanner is reporting that it is not able to scan messages because the connection is encrypted, see the steps below to resolve the issue.

Open, AVG then to go the Tools menu at the top, and select Advanced Settings

Find Email Protection on the left hand menu, expand Email Scanner, expand Servers and highlight POP3
Click Add new server

Enter the address of your mail server, press OK. If you're not sure of your mail server, please contact your Internet Service Provider.
Type of Login - change to Fixed Host and enter the mail of your mail server as in the previous step. Change the port to the right of this box from 110 to 995.
Additional Settings - change Local Port: to 5300 and Connection: to Secure to regular port
Click Apply
The AVG E-mail Scanner is now set up to communicate with your e-mail server using SSL encryption.
Now, configure your e-mail client so that it connects to the AVG E-mail Scanner instead of the actual e-mail server. The server configuration will be:
POP3
Server: 127.0.0.1
Port: 5300
Username / password: same as before (i.e. your e-mail username and password)
Encryption: NONE ( SSL disabled)
The issue should now be resolved. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact our Technical Support team.
