Feedback Update - Week 35 2011
Wednesday, 31 August 2011
As part of our continuing dialogue on Technical issues, we bring you the fixes that you inspired us to make last week.
1. Safe Search extension is not compatible with Firefox 6.0
Mozilla has released their new Firefox 6.0 browser for public. Unfortunately, the AVG Safe Search extension is not compatible with this browser version yet. We found some glitches during our internal testing and developers are working on rectifying them. A new AVG program update will be released as soon the support is fully implemented. You may also notice some other Firefox extensions are not compatible as the Firefox development cycle is quite rapid.
Please rest assured you are still protected by AVG even if you have already upgraded to Firefox 6.0. The AVG Active Surf Shield component is still checking all data and will prevent you from accessing malicious content even though search results verdict icons are not available temporarily.
2. Lenovo Access Connections
An AVG user noticed higher CPU load on his Lenovo laptop. Log file analysis determined that the C:\Users\Public\Documents\AccConnAdvanced.html is being scanned often by the Resident Shield as it is very frequently updated (several times per second). Such scanning indeed requires considerable amount of CPU processing time which results in slowing down the system. It seems that this file is used for logging network activity by the Access Connections utility.
In case you have noticed a system slowdown on your Lenovo computer, we recommend creating an exception on the above mentioned file in AVG Resident Shield configuration as follows:
- Open the AVG user interface and press F8.
- Select Resident Shield -> Excluded Items.
- Click the Add File button on the right side of the window.
- Browse through your file system to the above mentioned file and select it.
- Older versions of the Access Connections utility stored their logs on alternate locations, please check this and this AVG Free Forum posts for more information, in case the file cannot be found.
- Click OK to save all changes.
Should you need further guidance, please contact AVG technical support.
3. AVG Secure Search for images does not respect user's location
One of AVG Forum visitors noticed that when using AVG Secure Search to search for Images as indicated below, a Czech result page is displayed:
Web search results are not affected. This issue has been reported to developers for investigation. Please use alternate image search engine until the issue is rectified (e.g. the Google image search).
Please accept our apology for the inconvenience.
4. AVG Mobilation Mobile Control Panel unavailable
We have noticed a glitch within AVG Mobilation Mobile Control Panel thanks to user's report on Thursday. We have immediately fixed the problem and the Mobile control panel is fully functional again.
Should you face any challenge while using the Mobile Control Panel, please contact AVG technical support.
5. virus@avg.com was temporarily unreachable
We have reported the virus@avg.com not available when sending a message from Gmail accounts. The e-mail address was unreachable from Thursday 25th 10 :00 AM through Friday 26th 11:00 AM GMT. The issue has been rectified and our specialised virus analysts' e-mail address is fully available at the moment.
Please accept our apology for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
