Corporate Responsibility

AVG (AU/NZ), as the distributor of the AVG Anti-Virus and Internet Security products in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, reinvests a significant portion of its revenue to help build community awareness of the growing threats posed to individuals and businesses by online criminals and identity thieves.

In June 2011, we took this a step further by becoming a National Community Partner of Australian Red Cross with a generous donation of $150,000. Whilst working to help make individuals and businesses across its community safe and secure online, we see an equally compelling need to help vulnerable people in the physical world.

Money raised from our partnership with Australian Red Cross will be used to support the Cribas Water Supply Project in East Timor. This project is one of many key water and sanitation programs in the Asia Pacific region where Red Cross works to deliver clean, safe drinking water and adequate sanitation programs for adults and children.

Red Cross works with the most disadvantaged people around the world, helping them to achieve healthier, safer, more protected and sustainable lives. In Asia Pacific, many people are still without running water, and communities can spend hours collecting water from remote mountain streams. In addition to the considerable stress this places on community subsistence, the water is often contaminated and can lead to ill health. Australian Red Cross works closely with communities, authorities and local Red Cross societies to improve access to water and sanitation systems.

Tragically, more than one billion people worldwide do not have access to either safe water or basic sanitation, and as many as four million people die each year as a result. It is heartbreaking to think that the lack of these things that our society takes for granted is the world's second biggest killer of children.

Affected communities will continue to look for organisations like Red Cross for support - more than 9 million people have directly benefited from Red Cross water and sanitation programs and with our help we hope to see this number continue to climb.

Just as AVG was the first leading Anti-Virus company to provide free security solution to the consumer market, we are the first and currently the only software vendor to become a partner of Australian Red Cross at the National Community Partner level. Our partnership with Red Cross highlights the company's keen sense of corporate responsibility and adds to our well established portfolio of philanthropic contributions. "We understand that with awareness and the right tools most online infection is preventable. So too can the successful fight against disease be expanded into our wider community. We are using the success of our business to make a difference in the world", says our Managing Director, Peter Cameron.

In addition to continuing to enjoy the benefits of the AVG software, we encourage our 3 million strong community of paid and free users to help us support Australian Red Cross endeavours in East Timor and across the globe by either making a donation on their website, or joining our staff as we participate in various Red Cross volunteering programs.
